The Sixth Form Computer Suite has had a recent overhaul and has been re-designed and 26 brand new computers installed into it. These machines are LG Flatron N194WA’s ‘Energy-star’ rated energy efficient monitors with integrated n-computing L300 hardware supporting desktop virtualisation. These systems are far superior to the ageing HP Compaq SFF (Small Form Factor) traditional desktops as they consume far less power, run cooler and have a smaller footprint allowing more room for study. This has been made possible through a process called desktop virtualisation which means it is possible to run multiple virtual desktops from a single server.

The 22nd September saw leading lights at the Facebook Developers conference (known as f8) unveiling plans for a radically redesigned Facebook page which will be called the Facebook Timeline. This rework will swap the single column of status updates and allow a more holsitic view to be available as it can show events and media right back to your date of birth. At an interview regarding the rework, Mark Zuckerberg commented “[that its]…a great way to discover all the things people have done their whole life”.
